Yoko Ono's first musical performance was called ‘A Grapefruit In The World Of Park’ and took place at the Village Gate in NY.  The Grapefruit would appear again later in her work as the title of her 1964 book ‘Grapefruit: A Book Of Instructions And Drawings.’ She sent this book to John Lennon three years later, before they became a couple.

The contents of ‘Grapefruit’ alternately vexed and delighted Lennon who kept the book by his bedside and quipped once that it was the best book he’d ever burnt. John wrote an introduction to the book when it was reissued in 1971. John is pictured in our hangtag wearing a promotional t-shirt of the book at a signing in Selfridges, London.
