Ramones were an American punk rock band formed in the New York City in 1974. They were a major influence on the '70s punk movement in both the United States and the UK. The Ramones took their name from the pseudonym Paul McCartney would use when checking into hotels Paul Ramone. Thus, Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee & Tommy and all future members would use Ramone as a stage name.
Their first UK show (July 4, 76) inspired the sound of English punk bands like the Clash, Buzzcocks, and the Damned. Their influence in the States was reflected in the music of Black Flag, X, and the Dead Kennedys.
